Poetry has been a part of my life for a long time. Poetry gives name to things we often don’t talk about, and has the ability to capture feelings that are sometimes hard to express. In poetry, we find that we are not alone, that our experiences are part of the human condition. There is great solace in poetry. Poetry is necessary. As Audre Lorde said in her essay “Poetry Is Not a Luxury,”

…poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence. It forms the quality of light within which we predicate our hopes and dreams toward survival and change, first made into language, then into idea, then into more tangible action. Poetry is the way we give name to the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest horizons of our hopes and fears are cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives.

In this podcast, “The Sound of Solace,” I’m sharing some of the poems and words that have brought me solace and hope, strength and light. I hope these little bits of calm bring some peace and revelation to your life too.

Always,
Tiffany
