Kindle

First He touches them with a hand of yellow.
Leaves of honeylocust
burning early,
but not aflame.
October hawks early morning circle
the sky an open canvas
for new works,
multicolored brush strokes of
Creator’s design.
I call it good.
I follow down to the river
where geese are waiting.
Rhythm of wave choppy in the strong breeze
and summer’s leaves, gone, now float.
A newness is coming,
born from dying,
born from releasing.
This is the season of our remaking too.



This poem refers to the thornless honeylocust trees, which are among the very first trees to glow bright yellow in the fall season in the Northeast. They are the second tree shown in the video above.
