Poem: “Prayer” by Tiffany Nicole Fletcher (Video)

Photo of two pairs of artfully uplifted brown-skinned arms.

We are living through times of great pressure, upheaval, and transition. It’s critical that we remember our tools now. Prayer is a primary tool for life.

Prayer is for the desperate. Those who know that in both good times and in times of challenge, they are utterly dependent on God. That’s how we access true strength.

Prayer is a gift from God, this connection we have through Christ to the throne room of Heaven. God hears us when we cry, and he answers us. He draws near to us. The great incomparable, powerful source of all love calls us “friend.”

As believers, we call the way and timing of how God answers our prayers “good,” even if we don’t understand it. That’s what it means to live in faith.

For he has said,

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoug
hts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

To pray is to enter into communion with this higher way, with the very character and presence of God. The Great “I AM,” his love is steadfast and unchanging.

I pray this poem helps you remember, and inspires you to persist in prayer.

Prayer

by Tiffany Nicole Fletcher

secret whispered conversation
between this small beating heart
and the heart of eternity,
sweet communion,
holy listening,
embrace without end.
ungraspable mystery, that words
are spoken into the ether
and the Source of all things
answers back,
in perfect timing,
to all who call and seek.
this love relationship,
this closest listening
and the most sacred speaking,
this home, this place
of rest.
this infinite heart, this always-open hand,
this is the answer.
Praise God.
